Waste to Worth
SURE Inc, has established a joint venture with Mizuho Asia Partners’ MIZUHO ASEAN PE FUND and Simfoni Bioresources to develop and operate BOT and BOO (Renewable Energy projects in Asia) committing to an initial portfolio of projects in ASEAN worth USD20 Million. These include Biogas Waste to Energy Projects in Philippines, Vietnam and the first Biogas Animal Waste to Energy project in Singapore.

Known for its marine biodiversity, the area has numerous islands which are mostly energized through small diesel engines. Utilizing locally available biomass resources, such as coconut shells and other agricultural residues, a small scale gasifier was set up together with a solar and wind hybrid system.
SURE's major projects cover the development of BIOGAS, BIOMASS, SOLAR and MINI-HYDRO PROJECTS for electricity production, heat production, combined heat and power (CHP) and trigeneration. SURE operates on a Build-Operate-Transfer (BOT) Scheme from project conceptualization, design and integration.

SURE concludes the First Year of Cocoon with an
Internship under Manila Water
In October 2016, SURE Inc. launched Cocoon, a year-long program for college students interested in creating a more sustainable world. Cocoon aimed to equip the students with the skills and network to innovate. Unfortunately, this program was cut short due to complications with the schedules of the students who hailed from various universities. In spite of the abrupt end of the program, the students were still exposed to various perspectives regarding innovation.
As part of the program, the students were tasked to design a solution to any environmental problem and pitch it to Paul Puthenpurekal, the Director of SURE Inc.. The winning team was awarded with a guaranteed internship to a company that aligned with their interests. Jan Duazo and John Paul “Jjampong” Sanglay were part of the team that won an internship under the Ayala Group Summer Internship Program (AGSIP) 2017.
“The two-week internship in SURE was jam packed with fun and valuable learning experiences as well as providing an opportunity for us to writing a business proposal from scratch. You wouldn’t want to miss out!” - Justin Chiu
Common Purpose is an international organization focused on conducting leadership development programs for students, emerging leaders, and senior leaders. This year, Common Purpose partnered with the University of Hong Kong (HKU) for a leadership program for more than 60 HKU students of various disciplines. The program was held in Manila for one month just this June 2017.
As part of the leadership program, Common Purpose partnered with Solutions Using Renewable Energy (SURE) Inc. to run a two-week internship program. A team composed of nine students was assigned to produce a project proposal for an urban indoor farm in Metro Manila. They were then required to present this proposal to a panel on June 30, 2017 in Makati Palace Hotel.
To kickstart the internship, several icebreakers and team building activities were held. The internship also consisted of a series of roundtable discussions ranging from food security to innovation. Several resource persons also enlightened the students as they constructed their proposal. Some of the resource persons include Erick Yambao (Plontur), Rina Papio (Earth Venture, Inc.), Carlo Sumaoang (MNLGrowkits) and Katsy Garcia (Graphic designer). The students were also given the opportunity to interview call center agents as a call center building was the chosen site location.
At the end of the internship, the students produced a 23-page proposal for Grow@Work: Urban Indoor Gardening in a Call Center in the Philippines. This proposal was submitted to our executive team and presented to Common Purpose on June 30. SURE Inc. was proud to collaborate with such brilliant young minds and is grateful to Common Purpose for extending this opportunity.
